Top Achievers' Attend Edmund Burke Society Dinner

My name is Simona Talpalaru, and I am a first-year LLB (Law) student at ARU London. In July I was one of the six students who received an invitation to attend a wonderful Edmund Burke Society Dinner, as an award for the highest marks in the course.

The host of the event and dinner was the historical Brook’s Club. After a warm welcome at the stylish Reception Room by the club concierge we were greeted with welcome drinks and invited to a large private lounge. We had the chance to network with the members of the club who were professionals in the legal and business community. After the networking session, we were invited to the classic and fabulously ornate dining room. During dinner, I sat near one of the most experienced criminal and immigration barristers from England.The guest speaker for the evening was Andrew Gimson, political journalist and the author of Gimson’s Prime Ministers.Overall, the event represented an excellent and inspiring experience to network and learn from professionals in the legal and business community.

After this experience, I would recommend to all my learned colleagues at ARUL to take every single opportunity to network. I wish to thank Sanja Lalic, Head of Faculty Office and Senior Lecturer, and lecturer Amy Croft, who is our Course Leader for LLB (Law), for sharing their knowledge, wisdom, teachings and their guidance. I would also like to express my most profound gratitude to Anglia Ruskin University London for this unique opportunity.

 I conclude with an inspirational Edmund Burke quote:

There is but one law for all, namely that law which governs all law, the law of our Creator, the law of humanity, justice, equity - the law of nature and nations.'

Tourism Live Project 2018

March 2018 has been host to three successful events implemented by our Level 6 Business and Tourism students as part of their Tourism Live Project module. This module gives an opportunity to Tourism and Event students to put into practice the theory they have learnt over their 3 years at the university. They are asked to come up with an event idea, pitch the idea to their lecturers before marketing and implementing this event to their chosen audiences.

Students successfully ran the following events;

Tourism, Hospitality and Events Careers Fair

Sunny Oriunuta, Marina Termenova, Petruta Neacsu, Ieva Rackaukiene and Tuoyo Shandorf worked with the Employability Team to put on a Careers Fair aimed at students studying on our Tourism, Hospitality or Events degrees. The event attracted many employers within the relevant industries and saw over 150 students attend within two hours. The event ran very smoothly and was a resounding success.

Level 6 Party

The Level 6 party took place at Kanaloa bar and club. 30 students bought tickets to attend and had a great time with drinks and canapés. They enjoyed the evening networking with their peers and a handful of their lecturers. The night went off without a hitch after careful planning from Beth Giles, Tanna Tyley, Silvia Sajin, Yasmina El Khalifi Guaha and Chukwuemeka Ibegbuna.

Cultural Fusion Event

The Cultural Fusion Event asked students to dress in their traditional garments to embrace the many cultures we have throughout our student body. Over 40 students attended to listen to live music and watch the fashion parade during their lunch hour. Students were encouraged to share their story and provide an insight into the origins of their outfit. The event packed out the cafeteria and went perfectly thanks to Aselle Abigo, Mario Nikolov and Cosmin Isachi. In a world where the news is dominated by stories of division it was wonderful to see our students embracing each other’s culture with open arms.
