Sport Scholarships

If you're a talented student athlete, apply for our Anglia Ruskin Sports Scholarship worth £1,000.

Application deadline: 31st January 2017

We take great pride in the fact that some of the most talented sports men and women in the country choose to study with us. We also understand how difficult it can be to balance the demands of competing at the highest level with a full academic life when you first arrive at university.

We offer students competing at regional, national or international level, the opportunity to apply for a scholarship award worth up to £1,000 a year for three years. Each award is tailored towards the needs of the athlete, and is delivered as a package of support that’ll add value to existing training programmes to help achieve both academic and sporting success.

You can apply for a 2017/18 scholarship by contacting callum.tasker@lca.anglia.ac.uk or calling 0207 400 6784.

“With my father actively trying to dissuade me from studying such a ‘dull’ subject as accounting, I entered ARU London not knowing quite what to expect of my course or of the other students."

“To my relief the lecturers have the profound ability to make even taxation laws and financial statements seem both attractive and compelling and have had me captivated by the numbers from day one. It now seems alien to assume anyone would find accounting anything but!

“And as for the classes, well, facing the plethora of personalities from a variety of backgrounds has been an enriching experience. ARU London has also given me plenty of opportunities to actively participate in college life through the student society and student council.

“Overall I’d say my time at ARU London has been refreshing and I feel I have been handed the right tools with which to shape a successful future.”

"I came to ARU London having spent a year at another London university studying for a science-based degree. I realised that my initial choice of degree wasn't for me and that I actually wanted to study business. I did a Google search of business degrees in London and ARU London came up.  I came along to an open day and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

"At ARU London you're really encouraged to find internships and/or part-time work. There are real advantages to studying at a private institution: It's so cost-effective.  Aside from having much lower fees than public universities, ARU London  actually provides you with the core textbooks needed in your modules. I know that at most universities you have to pay around £300 on books for classes, whereas at ARU London they are paid for you. It saves about £60-70 per book!”

"At ARU London you feel like you can really make a difference. Its size means you get to know everyone. Most of my lecturers know me on a first name basis”.

"I was initially quite nervous about accepting a place at ARU London: for a start it was for a different course to the one I’d originally applied for and secondly I’d never heard of ARU London! But, I decided to visit ARU London anyway. When I first came in, I really liked the look of the place but I was still in two minds as to whether I was making the right choice or not. I like the two intensive days of lectures and tutorials. At first, I thought the workload would be too much, but the way everything is laid out really helps me understand the work. I enjoy the sense of independence ARU London gives me. Plus I am able to work part time and not be worried about not having enough money to spend on myself. Also, the mix of cultures and ethnicities across both the staff and the students makes it a very interesting and enjoyable environment to learn in."

“I think ARU London was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life and I’d advise everyone and anyone that this is a great University to attend.”

"Whilst at ARU London, I've had the chance to serve on Student Council which has given me a first-hand insight into how a business school is run and to have input into senior-level decision-making. I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have had this opportunity at a larger institution. I've also got involved with the football team which has been great."

"I started my degree fairly sure that marketing was the right sector for me, after a few lessons with such enthusiastic and knowledgable lecturers my feelings have been compounded! I can't wait to finish my degree and get working within a digital marketing agency."

"I wasn't sure whether I should come to university or not, I already had a great job back at home and was more than happy to settle. My parents convinced me that it would be the right move in the long run and since joining ARU London I have never looked back. I have had an amazing time here and learnt so much, not only that but I've also made friends that I am sure I will maintain for many years to come."

"One of the best things about ARUL is its lecturers. They are all working or have worked within the field they teach so they are able to bring real-world experiences into the class room and teach you very relevant information. This helped in particular with law. Subjects which I had previously found difficult to grasp were made easy with up to date and current examples to help."

"ARUL are great with their timetable. As they only teach you a couple of days a week you have the remainder to find meaningful work. I didn't have to look far as ARUL offered me an internship with option of a job after my degree. It was impossible to turn down and I have learnt so much about how an organisation can function. I have even been able to apply some of the knowledge I have gained throughout my degree to improve jobs I was tasked on. I'm very thankful to ARUL for helping me find a job in London and look forward to what the future holds."

‘I am very much enjoying my time at ARUL and I can proudly say that this new experience has developed my skills and taught me to be independent and mature in handling different situations. I am looking forward to completing my degree with ARUL and taking on the real world, which I assume will be very challenging.’

“I have always enjoyed Maths and I decided that if possible I wanted to pursue a career that involved maths. When I was at college, I did some work experience at an accounting firm and this made me realise that accounting would be a good career for me. I’d like eventually to become a Chartered Accountant. ARUL's location means I’m studying in a fantastic area of London where there are many employment opportunities. The intensive two days of lectures and tutorials make it easier for me to fit part-time work around my studies. Since starting at ARUL I feel I’ve become better at time management and more self-motivated. The support given by lecturers and tutors has provided a firm foundation for my studies and developed me not only academically, but also socially and personally. As a member of the ARUL Student Society, I’ve taken a lead role in arranging an ARUL football team and have also been involved in arranging events such as the Christmas Freshers ball. This has allowed me to have a great time and to meet loads of wonderful people at ARUL.

“I initially thought about a career in hairdressing. However, during my training I came to realise that although I liked hair styling, it wasn’t what I wanted to do full-time. I therefore went back to college to study for a BTEC National Diploma and found I really enjoyed the course. I had also become increasingly interested in business as a result of part-time jobs I’d had. The International Business Management degree seemed broad like my BTEC and I liked the idea of being able to change degrees at the end of my first year, just in case!"

"Throughout my degree I was working part-time at a job the work placement team helped me secure. Since graduating I have been offered a full-time role and to my surprise they encouraged me to study a Masters degree. With their encouragement and the Alumni Scholarship I received it was a no-brainer."

"I've really felt the jump between postgraduate and undergraduate and definitely feel better equipped for the challenges of a more senior role. On top of that I am learning skills very specific to my job which is really showing dividends in the workplace. I was apprehensive about studying whilst in a full-time job but the balance and delivery from the lecturers has been perfect. If you consider academics you friends throughout undergraduate, I'd say they certainly become both your friend and colleagues throughout a Masters."

"I'm very happy I made this choice and I feel that upon completion of my degree I'll be considered for some very prestigious senior roles."

"I would really like to praise the support I have received from my lecturers. Thanks to what I have learnt on the course and the encouragement I have received, I have excelled in all my assessments. I was never much of a bookworm at school but the lecturers here have sparked my interest in nearly every topic we have studied so far."

"I've also benefitted from ARUL's ties with different business partner's. At the recent Careers Fair I managed to secure an interview with a fashion brand and have since landed a part-time job there. I've always been interested in fashion but not the textile side of it. That's why I chose marketing, I consider it the most creative aspect of business, that and advertising."

"I completed my Nursing undergraduate and have been working in a hospital for a few years now. I felt like I had constantly moved up the ranks, being entrusted with more and more responsibilities. However, recently I felt as though I hit a bit of a ceiling and wasn't being considered for any more promotions. I have a lot of practical experience, but in terms of business acumen, I admit I was lacking a bit. That's why I'm happy I have taken the decision to study an MBA. I'm learning lots about the administration side of the Healthcare industry, gaining the right tools to be considered for senior nursing roles where leadership skills are required."

"It's hard work balancing a Masters degree and work but it is only one year and it will be worth it in the long run!"

"Although the MBA International is certainly challenging the staff (both academic and non-academic) have made it an awesome experience so far."

"My expectation was to meet a group of people from diverse cultural and career backgrounds pursuing a similar goal, engineered by a team of dedicated lecturers. This expectation has been well matched."

"ARU London is a great place which does not only prepare you for the chosen career but offers you a fantastic employability edge. I can recommend it for anyone with an eye for career progression."

"I really enjoyed studying Tourism at college so studying Hospitality at university was an obvious choice for me. My careers adviser told me many times that it's not enough these days to graduate with just a degree and that work experience is vital. This made my choice easier as ARU London have a lot of partners for work placements."

"I had actually had a few years work experience within the healthcare industry even before I started university. My family had close ties with the industry so it seemed logical for me to follow that path, and I find it very interesting of course! I never had a knack for all the practical elements the job required and that's why when I came across ARU London's degree I knew it was perfect for me. This degree has allowed me to follow my passion into the healthcare industry, but from a business perspective, an academic subject I excel in. From getting to know the subject more I have dreams of helping run one of the big hospitals one day, and my lecturers are inspiring me to keep chasing it."

"I love the flexibility that the timetable offers as well. I have to say, in my first year I didn't really focus on securing a work placement, afterall I had a lot of work experience already. I had a lot of fun the first year, experiencing what the city of London had to offer, but now I'm getting into the latter years of my degree I'm more focused on securing a good job and what life holds for me once I leave ARU London. Don't get me wrong, I'm still having fun, but now a lot of that fun is found in my workplace too."

"I went to visit quite a few universities before I decided on ARU London, and the thing that drew me in was the focus on employability. Law will always be an extremely competitive industry and it's important to understand that before you start the degree. For this reason I wanted to study somewhere I could gain work experience at the same time. ARU London's timetable stood out for me, having 2 full days of teaching a week left me with a lot of free time to socialise or even more important, work. I have to also give credit to my lecturers, one of my teachers practised Law for over 15 years before coming to ARU London so being able to pick the mind of someone so experienced has been invaluable."

"I have to say, I was concerned that going to a less traditional university wouldn't be for me, but I'm glad ARU London have helped prove that theory wrong. I'm enjoying every minute of it! I rest my case."

“During my time at ARU London, I’ve continued to live at home saving lots of money. I initially thought about doing business studies but chose accounting as I’d enjoyed accounting at A Level.  Some people might think that a finance degree limits your career options but actually there are lot of different areas you could go into including; auditing, taxation, management consultancy and chartered accountancy. My ambition is to work for one of The Big Four accounting firms."

"I'll admit that before I started researching ARU London, I didn't even know that Anglia Ruskin University existed. But I believe ARU London offers a number of clear advantages compared to a more traditional university.

“For starters, the standard of the lecturers here is superb – they really are excellent teachers. Equally important, the principal and lecturers at ARU London work so hard to get work placements and internship opportunities for students, great for your CV. And ARU London's timetable means I have two full days of lectures a week and am able to hold down a decent part-time job - for me this is much better than only having one or two classes a day spread over four or five days as you'd get at a traditional university.

"From talking to friends studying at other universities, the emphasis there is very much on theory whereas here it's on the application of theory within business.

"I'd like eventually to work in law, politics or marketing and I believe my degree is helping to do just that."

"My ambition has always been to follow in my father's footsteps. Due to his job he wasn't always around when I was younger but the stories he was able to tell me made up for it. That's where my love for travelling came from, without a doubt. My dad started his own Travel Agency and his job required him to travel the world, meet amazing people and see amazing places. Who wouldn't want to do that?!"

"I've always thought I can take over the family business but I never thought it would be simple. That's why I was so attracted to ARU London's Business and Tourism degree. The degree has a real focus on what it takes to succeed in Tourism. As all the lecturers have worked, or work within the field they teach, I found it so funny when one of the lecturers knew my dad quite well! I'm going to stop at nothing to achieve my dream and I know a good degree here will help me a long way to realising it!"
